Melissa Dawne is a singer/songwriter who ranks herself under an umbrella of Canadiana inspired influences. She incorporates Roots/Rock, Alternative and Celtic styles in her writing.
Over the years, listening to indie music has impacted her love of songwriting. Assisting her to create root inspired material that is emotional & raw. Recognizing her celtic/east coast heritage has brought Melissa Dawne to appreciate music of yesteryear, resulting in her own new eclectic melodies.

Melissa Dawne strives for the moments in music that stir up feelings, creating an emotive journey. Music can be a shared as a community of joy and also an opportunity for reflection and healing. Songwriting:
Some people hear the musical melodies first in their head. But for Melissa Dawne it generally starts with one chord leading into another. Then it just sort of develops from there, the words follow in place with the music thereafter.
Experience:
Some of Melissa Dawne’s background includes opening for Sloan in Barrie on New Years Eve, kickoff to 2006 (107.5FM radio contest winner). She’s performed on television shows such as Cogeco Cable “Planet Skwirl” and Rogers Cable “Daytime”. She’s also enjoyed playing at the “Songwriters Stage”, local pubs, fundraising events, services and mass (The Trinity Band). Her first album was recorded as a self-titled acoustic demo (6 songs) after winning recording time through Star Search.
Letter From Melissa:
Growing up as a child in Collingwood, the old shipping town was a pivotal and favourable backdrop to my upbringing. Set in Southern Georgian Bay, Collingwood is filled with the essence of hard work, tenacity, growth and development. All of these values and experiences in time helped cultivate my own persona and stories.
The stirring of my inner self became more engaged with my surroundings as I matured and challenged the world. I began tapping into emotions and using them to express myself musically. Writing and performing music gave me a way to dissect life & process relationships around me. Naturally in time this zeal shaped my voice and myself.
Over the years my writing style began incorporating the beauties and sorrows that life has to offer. As a result, you witness a multitude of joys, celebrations and tribulations inside the musical notes of my songs. Life is filled with moments of daydreaming, creating and learning. Taking on a carefree innocence and open heart has helped lead me to experience an opportunity to embrace adventure and passion.
My goal with my album ‘The Waiting Game’ was to bring excitement, recovery and joy. As a result, you will endure a multitude of celebrations and tribulations inside the musical notes of my songs.
